ACADEMIC DIRECTOR, PATHWAYS FOR PROSPERITY COMMISSION ON TECHNOLOGY AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Prof. Benno Ndulu is the Academic Director of Pathways for Prosperity Commission on Technology and Inclusive Development. Based at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government, the Commission focuses on examining how to turn the potential risks of technological change into opportunities for inclusive development.

Prof. Ndulu served as Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania from 2008 to 2017. Prior to the post of Governor, he was a Professor at the University of Dar es Salaam before joining the World Bank, where he served as Lead Economist – Macroeconomic Division for Eastern Africa; Research Manager, Development Economics Department; Manager and Advisor to Vice President Africa Region.

Prof. Ndulu is best known for his involvement in setting up and developing one of the most effective research and training networks in Africa, the African Economic Research Consortium. He served as its first Research Director and later as its Executive Director.

He received an honorary doctorate from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague in 1997 recognition of his contributions to Capacity Building and Research on Africa.

Prof. Ndulu has published and taught widely on growth, regional integration, adjustment, governance, trade, and investments.
