Former President of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar

H.E. Hery Rajaonarimampianina was the first democratically elected President under Madagascar’s 2010 constitution.

He is an economist and chartered accountant, educated in Canada. Between 1991 and 2008 He worked as a chartered accountant and held teaching positions in Madagascar. In 2009, H.E. Rajaonarimampianina was appointed Minister of Finance and Budget, a position he held in the midst of a particularly acute political crisis in the country. Despite the freezing of all foreign aid throughout his tenure, he successfully managed to contain inflation and keep the Malagasy currency stable. He also ensured the payment in due time of all civil servants’ wages.

Following the second round of election held on 20th December, 2013, he was declared President-elect on 17th January 2014 and subsequently took the oath of Office as President of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar on 25th January, 2014.
